We will use quadrant dental models with soft tissue to accomplish the following:

1. Use a microblade to make incisions.
2. Use micro-instruments to gently raise papillas and flaps.
3. Use simulated graft material to place in the socket.
4. Cover the graft material with a membrane and tuck it under the buccal and lingual flaps.
5. Suture the membrane in place. You will all have adequate time to review suturing techniques.
6. Barricaid Covering: You will place the protective covering on the model, exactly as you would in the mouth.
7. You will leave the course and be able to do the procedure the very next day in your office.

As dentists, we hear a lot about implants, sinus lifts and ridge grafting. However, extraction socket preservation has not been given the attention it deserves. Unfortunately for our patients, most of us are not grafting extraction sites to preserve the alveolar bone. This presentation will answer your questions about the socket grafting procedure, instruments to use, and NEW grafting technologies. The goal of this program is to give each one of you the tools to be able to graft all your future extractions. The key is get started! It is the right thing for your patients and it is good for your practice.
After this meeting you will be able to start doing socket preservation in your office TOMORROW. For those of you who haven’t sutured in a while, we will have hands-on portion to review suturing technique. We should all decide whether grafting extraction sites is something we want to make part of our practices. I believe that anyone who is extracting teeth is capable and should be doing extraction socket preservation. It is good for the patients and good for the bottom line in our practices.
